WHAT IS SEL?

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) refers to the process of acquiring and applying the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. SEL is an essential aspect of education that goes beyond traditional academic learning to focus on the development of the whole person.

Educators recognize that fostering social and emotional skills in students not only contributes to their overall well-being but also enhances academic performance and prepares them for success in various aspects of life. SEL is often integrated into school curricula through specific programs or embedded into everyday teaching practices. It plays a crucial role in creating a positive and supportive school climate that promotes a sense of belonging and community.
